Rob Van Dam recently appeared on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, where he addressed whether he has officially retired from wrestling.
A legendary figure in professional wrestling, RVD built his reputation in ECW before transitioning to WWE, where he captured multiple championships, including the WWE and Intercontinental Titles. His historic ECW One Night Stand 2006 victory over John Cena remains one of the most memorable moments in WWE history. RVD later expanded his career with stints in TNA/Impact Wrestling and has made sporadic returns to WWE. His high-flying style has influenced generations of wrestlers, and in 2021, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
When asked if he considers himself retired, RVD was clear in his response:
“I don’t [think I am], and I don’t think I will [retire]. That’s how I feel right now. I feel like even if I don’t take wrestling bookings anymore, I don’t think I’ll make a big deal out of retirement. Because when wrestlers retire, they end up coming back and wrestling anyway. ‘No, I want one more match.’ For me, that is completely eating up the credibility that I had in wrestling retirement matches. I doubt that I’ll ever feel like, ‘No, I’m going to be different. I never want to wrestle again. I’m done.’ I just see me going with the flow. And someday, when you say, ‘Are you still wrestling?’ I might say, ‘It’s been six years,’ and then I might have a match.”
While currently under a Legends Contract with WWE, RVD has also made recent appearances for AEW, proving that his in-ring career may not be over just yet.
