OpTic have defeated Ancient 2-0 (Overpass 16-12, Nuke 16-14) to win DreamHack Open Summer and secure a spot at DreamHack Masters Malmö.
The grand final began on the Swedish team's pick, Overpass, which started off with the two sides trading back-and-forth as Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen and Fredrik "freddieb" Buö put up a clutch each.
Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's triple-kill in the fourth round ended the shenanigans, but OpTic's streak soon came to an end when freddieb stood out once again with an ace on the back of a successful B fake. Not allowing Ancient to string rounds together, the Danes kept controlling the half and eventually reached their ninth, before more individual plays from freddieb and William "draken" Sundin gave their team a lifeline going into the CT side.
René "TeSeS" Madsen opened the second half with a quad-kill in an aggressive post-plant stance to push OpTic to 12 rounds. Backs against the wall, the Swedes put up a valiant effort to come back into contention for the first map, but they couldn't catch up to MSL's team, who emerged victorious at 16-12, in the end.
Nuke followed with OpTic dealing first blood in the pistol round as Terrorists, but it was Ancient who ruled when both sides had full weaponry, as five rounds in a row went their way. Ismail "refrezh" Ali stopped the streak with a quick 1v4 clutch on the A bombsite, allowing his team to climb back and retake the lead, eventually switching over to the defense with a one-round advantage.
Alfred "RuStY" Karlsson kicked off the second half with four kills, helping his team get off to a flying start on their T side, with two clutches from draken extending their advantage to 13-9. However, OpTic tightened up the defense and a few comfortable rounds saw Ancient sweat under the pressure, as only another individual action from draken could break through. Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and niko continued to combine on the A site to bring the second map to even keel at 14-14 and the Danes didn't let go, bringing the series to a close at 16-14 to raise their first trophy under the North American organization.
